About the Item

Set of Early Edo Period Buddhist bronze Ritual Implements – Five-Pronged Vajra and Bell An elegant and well-preserved set of Buddhist ritual implements from the Momoyama -early Edo period (17th century), consisting of a five-pronged vajra (kongōsho) and a bell (rin or ghanta)—used in esoteric Vajrayana and Shingon Buddhist practices. The vajra, symbolizing indestructible truth and spiritual power, is finely cast in bronze with five symmetrical prongs and a well-balanced form, showing natural wear and patina from ritual use. The bell, representing wisdom and the feminine principle, complements the vajra both in craftsmanship and function, with a clear tone and graceful silhouette. Together, these implements embody the duality of method and wisdom, compassion and emptiness—a central tenet in esoteric Buddhist practice. Sets from this period, especially in such cohesive condition, are increasingly rare. Vajra 11.5x2 Bell 13.5x6
