Three Village Buddha Statues from Laos

About the Item

A trinity installation of three antique "village" Buddha from Laos. Carved in an informal village style, the execution of the craftsmanship and pigment decoration is noticeably folky with a strong tribal style. This is in sharp contrast with the Buddha images found in the formal temples setting, indicating a rather rural and folklore setting where the worship took place. There is discernible Thai script written in the facade of the throne of the largest Buddha. It says: xxx (someone's name) donated this Buddha in the year of 24xx (for instance, the year of 2000 is 2543 in Thai Calendar), indicating their approximate age. We would love to keep them together as a trinity but will sell individually. The measurement is 42.5x15x10, 33x10x9, 30x8.5x7. The price are 4500, 3000, 2500. Note: some regions of nowadays Southern Laos were part of Thailand in the 19th century before the border demarcation was imposed by Britain and France at the turn of the 20th century. Therefore although the item was collected in Southern Laos, it was made originally by Thai.
