Antique Canada Post Office Balance Scale with Cast Metal Base and Brass Accents

About the Item

This antique postal scale is unsigned, but presumed to have originated from Canada and date to approximately 1952 and done in the Late Victorian style. The scale is composed of cast metal with a brass pan and slide scale. The base has been cold-painted in gloss black with hand-painted gilt stylized leaves. The base is cast with the cypher "ER" for Queen Elizabeth separated by the Royal crown, and "Canada P.O." on the rear of the base designating it as intended for the post office. This would have been used to weigh parcels to determine the postage cost and behind the counter in full view of postal customers given its ornate details.
