Dutch Opera glasses by J.M.Schmidt, Amsterdam, ca 1890 Mother of pearl Opera glasses with brass adjustable in degrees and length for visibility. The name and address of the optician are marked in the rings on the side where the eyes are viewed. The Opera glasses are in the original box, made of brown leather. The leather handle and interior (silk) have signs of wear. The Optician in Amsterdam J.M. Schmidt established in 1866 is the oldest existing optician in the Netherlands and located on the corner of Rokin (#72) at Wijde Kapelsteeg 1 in Amsterdam, where they still use the original old interior. The measurements are 5.5 cm high (closed) to 6.5 cm. The width is 11.2 cm and the depth is 4.2 cm. (1 Inch = 2.54 cm) The total weight is 302 grams
