James Henry Steward (1817–1896) established J.H. Steward in London in 1852, becoming J.H. Steward Limited in 1913. The company produced a large range of items for military use. They were opticians to The British & Foreign Governments, the National Rifle Associations of England, India, Canada & the Colonies and the National Artillery Association.
When it was discovered, that changes of atmospheric pressure are connected to changes of weather, barometers became very popular.
Evangelista Torricelli (1608-1647), mathematician and physicist, Galileo’s disciple, was the fist one in 1643 to make an instrument for measure changes of air pressure.
Man, as farmer or navigator, has always observed and tried to forecast the changes of weather. Scientific studies about these changes began in the middle ofXVII century, following experiments about the existence of empty, that antique philosophers denied because “nature hates empty!”.
