Mechanical lunarium instrument that mechanically illustrates the various phases of the moon
About the Item
Mechanical lunarium instrument that mechanically illustrates the various phases of the Moon in the early 1900s. The first phase is called the new moon, the second phase is called the crescent moon, the third phase is the full moon, and the fourth phase is the waning moon.
The brass instrument rests on a tripod base, presents the Earth at the center, beneath it four arms hold wooden spheres painted black and white, depicting the various phases of the Moon.
A crank handle connected to a gear makes it possible to rotate the four arms that of the Moon around the Earth for the purpose of showing the different appearance that the Moon shows toward the Earth during its motion.
The moon phases repeat every 29 days.
La Luna is the satellite closest to the Earth, it moves by turning on itself around its own axis always in the same direction
