Pocket barometer by J H Steward in original case

About the Item

This pocket barometer was made by the firm of by J H Steward and is still in its original leather covered case. The silvered dial with its blued pointer is surrounded by a rotating altimeter bezel where the altitude reading goes to 8000 feet. The barometer measures 48 mm (1 7/8ths inches) in diameter and it stands 16mm (5/8ths of an inch) high. Inside the case, the base is lined in blue velvet and the lid in a faded blue silk. Also inside the case is a scrap of paper with some calculations written in pencil, with the date 11/3/1916. The case is in good condition. J H Steward left the premises at 7 Gracechurch St., London in around 1905 and became a Limited company in 1913, so this would certainly date from before 1913 and would probably pre-date 1905.
