Curiosity
The retort is an ancient laboratory instrument widely used by alchemists that has maintained its form virtually unchanged over the centuries and used in the distillation of fatty substances.
Retorts can be considered as the simplest type of distiller, where the "neck" performs the function of a cooler from which the distillate exits to be collected in another container.
Before the advent of capacitors, retorts were used by many prominent chemists such as Antoine Lavoisier and Jons Berzelius.
