1980s Vintage Gerry Lopez camouflage surfboard
About the Item
Late-1980s Gerry Lopez shaped thruster surfboard. Features an iconic camouflage airbrush pattern which Lopez boards were known for in the 1980s-90s. Hand signed by Gerry Lopez, “GL” which indicates the surfboard was handmade by Gerry Lopez and not shaped by one of his “ghost” shapers. An incredible example of a Lopez shaped 1980s surfboard in all original condition.
In 1972, Gerry Lopez and Jack Shipley started the popular lightning bolt surfboards label in Honolulu, Hawaii. They designed high performance shortboards, a new development in the surfing world at the time. Lopez created the iconic lightning bolt jag symbol which graced the boards of all the best surfers of the day. It was a representation of energy - the energy of powerful Hawaiian surf. Gerry Lopez was by far the most filmed surfer of his generation and his smooth surfing style was featured in nearly every major surf film made in the 1970s.
