Cecil Aldin, Old Inns, The Star Inn. A very nice colourful framed chromolithograph by Cecil Aldin of The Star Inn, Alfriston, Sussex. The print is printed and published by Eyre & Spottiswoode, Ltd., 4 Middle New Street, London, E.C.4. and signed in pencil by the artist in the bottom left-hand margin with Fine Art Trade Guild blind stamp. The Star Inn appeared in Aldin's book 'Old Inns' published in 1921 by Heinemann and was one of Aldin's most popular series, it was followed by Old Manor Houses (1923) and Cathedrals and Abbey Churches of England (1924). Here we have two items relating to the late Sir Cecil Beaton, a multi talented man who was a celebrated photographer, author, diarist and set designer, to name but a few of his accomplishments. Firstly there is a Christie's sale catalogue which was produced in 1980 for the disposal of the contents of Reddish House in Wiltshire, held over two days with 725 lots which included works of art, furniture, silver, pictures, porcelain and garden effects.
