About the Item
PERFECT PUTTER, M.J. Lewis.
A fine, patent blade putter with unusual ovoid shaped shaft. The shaft is made from greenheart or danga wood, is teardrop shaped with the point to the front but terminating into a square grip, all to help with alignment. The face with dot punch markings, rear of the head 'Stainless, PERFECT PUTTER, M.J. Lewis, Registered No. 748219'. There is a step on the top edge of the face.
Martin J. Lewis was the professional/club maker at Churchdown Golf Club, Gloucester 1907 - 1910 then moved onto Little Aston, Sutton Coldfield, between 1910 to 1952.
Set in the grounds of the original Little Aston Hall, Little Aston Golf Club came into being in 1908, in July of that year Harry Vardon was commissioned to convert the land into a golf course and shortly afterwards Harry Colt was brought in by the membership to make several improvements and transform Little Aston's bunkering.
