Antique late-19th century Victorian solid silver & horn mounted table "gimble" cigar lighter. The large Blackbuck antelope horn is mounted with a silver orb-shaped burner on gimble wivel mechanism, ensuring the light wick is always upright no matter how the lighter is passed or carried, resting on a scroll supports. Hallmarked English silver (925 silver standard), London, year 1895 (U), Maker Edward & Sons (Joseph Braham). Measures: Height 8cm Width 59cm Depth 8cm Weight 665g.

An exceptional, fine and impressive, unusual antique Victorian English sterling silver table lighter modelled in the form of a hunting horn; an addition to our Victorian silverware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian silver lighter, in sterling standard, has been realistically modelled in the form of a fox hunting horn. The swept cylindrical body of this novelty silver straight trumpet is embellished with the original gilding to the lower portion representing the copper bell. The bell is ornamented with the contemporary engraved inscription 'P. Saltmarshe, Esq, 1889, from Major General Ravenhill'. The rim of the antique lighter bell is encompassed with bands of tooled decoration. The upper portion of this antique lighter is encircled with further bands of tooled decoration and retains the original screw fit mouthpiece; once removed this allows access to the wick.
