Doerr & Co American 1925 Lacquered Art Deco Smoking Station In Chromed Steel

About the Item

Wall smoking station created by the Doerr Company. This is an amazing piece of American history, created during the art deco period, back in the 1925. Crafted with industrial machine age patterns in chromed steel, by the Doerr Manufacturing Company in Grand Rapids Michigan. This cigarette dispenser and smoking station is decorated with geometric art-deco figures and accented with applications of black lacquer. It is fitted with three compartments; the first one a pull out for the matches box, the second in the middle a pop-up for the cigarettes and the last one a removable ashtray for the ashes. Each compartment is retractable by complicated mechanism, levers and hinges. It is an exceptional piece of history with terrific eye appeal and surely this will be a great conversation piece. We have extensively look online and in our own library and we cannot track any other similar to this. The inventor of this piece was Gordon E. Roedding and was patented in November 24,1924. He was born in Canada and patented several cigarettes, matches and medicine dispensers in the mid of the 1920. The Metal Craft Company, a Michigan corporation was incorporated in 1923, but under the corporate name of Doerr Manufacturing Company. The patent extract specifications are as follow; In the embodiment of the invention illustrated by the drawings, a container for cigarettes, matches and the like adapted to be mounted in the interior of an automobile is shown. This device comprises a 'frame or casing 1 having an open front 2, and secured in position by suitable means as by screws passing through openings 3 in the casings end walls 4. A receptacle 5, adapted to hold boxes and articles as seen in the illustration. Materials: Chromed steel and black lacquer. Weight: 573.95 Grams, (1.28 Pounds). Measurements: 171.45 mm by 115.57 mm by 44.45 mm (6.75 x 4.55 x 1.75 Inches). Markings: Stamped with the maker's mark and signed, "MADE BY DOERR MFG. CO. TRADE MARKGRAND RAPIDS MICH U.S.A. PAT APLD FOR". Note: This piece has been professionally cleaned and oiled in all their parts. All parts are original with no missing pieces. Condition: The overall condition of this piece is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to any part. All pieces are secured in the settings.
