George Houston Antique Edwardian 1906 Sterling Silver Vesta Case
About the Item
A fine and collectable antique Edwardian English sterling silver vesta case with billiard interest, an addition to our sports related silverware collection.
This fine Edwardian sterling silver vesta case has a plain circular form.
The anterior surface of this antique sterling silver case is embellished with a chased decorated scene depicting a billiard room with seated characters to the background and male figures playing to the foreground.
The reverse surface and sides of the case are plain and unembellished.
This piece is fitted with a hinged spring cover and ring loop attachment to the side.
This fine antique sterling silver case incorporates a serrated panel/match striker to the underside.
Condition
This antique vesta case is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.
The chased decoration is very sharp.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the rim of the case are all very clear.

George Houston
George Houston was born in Dalry in 1869 and educated at Saltcoats Public School and Glasgow School of Art. He lived most of his life in Dalry, painting his native Ayrshire, but he also maintained a studio in Glasgow and spent time painting in the Inner Hebrides and around Loch Fyne. Houston became an Associate of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1909 and then an Academician in 1925. He died a Dalry in 1947.
