Mid-Century Modern Large Ceramic Holland Molds Jazz Musician Inspired Ashtray

About the Item

This large ceramic ashtray has no artist's signature, but the mold for it was made by the Holland Mold Company of the United States in circa 1965 in the period Mid-Century Modern style. Holland Molds were very popular for ceramics enthusiasts and their molds were used by both home crafters and professionals alike. This example is a large ceramic ashtray using and combination of brown, gold and green glazes around the sides and around the border and the center is done with the addition of blue. Around the rim are the first names of various famous Jazz musicians of the Mid-Century era in high relief. The ashtray is clearly signed on the bottom with faint impressed marks: "Holland Co. Mold".
