Ronson 1954 Harold Sitterle Rosenthal Desk Tall Lighter White & Black Porcelain

About the Item

Desk petrol lighter designed by Harold Sitterle (1921-1993) for Ronson. Fabulous avant garde petrol table lighter, created in the 1954 by the American artist Harold Sitterle for the Ronson Company. This rare ultra modernist piece was manufactured in very limited edition by the Rosenthal Porcelaine Company, based in Germany. The lower part is crafted in glossy white porcelain and the upper section in matte black porcelaine. It is crowned with a lighter made up in chromed steel and golden steel. Weight: 418.6 Grams, (0.93 Pounds). Measurements: Diameter in the base is 108 mm and a height of 216 mm (4.25 x 8.51 Inches). Hallmarks: Marked with the maker's mark, the designer's name and signed, "HAROLD SITTERLE FASHIONED FOR RONSON ROSENTHAL SEIB PLOSSBERG GERMANY". The lighter insert is signed as follow, "RONSON (R) NEWARK, N.J. U.S.A. U.S. PATENT 2.481.195". Harold Sitterle was a post-war artist. Harold Sitterle was an american male artist born in 1921. He has been exhibited with Josef Albers and Giacomo Pier Castiglioni. His exhibition was in 20th Century Design from the Museum Collection at Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, NY in 1958. He passed in 1993 at 73 years old. Literature: TIMES magazine November 8, 1954, Pictured, See figure. Museums: Permanent collection at MOMA, New York, NY. Note: This piece has been produced with inverted color variations in the base and the upper part. The original retail price back in the 1954 was 32.50 USD.     A stainless steel lighter designed by Ronson. Very beautiful desk Rondette lighter, created in New Jersey United States by The Ronson Co. during the art deco period, back in the 1934. This is a very unusual lighter designed with wonderful geometric patterns and crafted in solid steel with a central round body set upon two smaller cylindrical feet. Embellished with black lacquer, creating a great contrast with the base polished steel. Extremely well made and solid construction with very nice care and attention to all details.
