"Russian .875 trompe l'oel cigar box hallmarked 84 Zolotniks with woman's Kokoshnik within an oval cartouce and makers mark by Petrovich Khlebnikov, St Petersburg on the base and inside the gilt finished hinged lid. Engraved H. UPMAN/FLOR with a simulated wood grain finish and Russian trade tax bands on the top and sides.
Measure: 542 grams, 171 x 106 x 45mm.
Khlebnikov was an Imperial Russian jewelry firm, founded ca. 1867 by Ivan Khlebnikov in Saint Petersburg, but transferred to Moscow in 1871.
The business was highly successful and received the Imperial Warrant producing work of originality and highest quality using decoration in the traditional Russian style on many pieces. Enamel was a specialty especially plique-à-jour, but also cloisonné. Demand for its work was high and in 1882 it employed 200 craftsmen. The business succumbed at the time of the Russian Revolution+ $100 direct debit".
