About the Item

3 x nice mid-century decorative toy cubes/blocks bags, designed by Ko Verzuu for ADO Holland in the 1950s. Price is for the complete set of 3 bags of wooden toy blocks! 3 very nice colorful canvas bags with strong wooden base: 1 striped bag 1 red bag 1 blue bag All handmade and hand colored. This bags are in played condition, lovely patinated wooden blocks in different shapes and sizes. Would look highly decorative in every interior. 3 Canvas bags with a set of wooden blocks / cubes to play. In good original condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Ko Verzuu (1901-1971) a former construction supervisor from Utrecht, led the ADO -Arbeid Door Onvolwaardigen- workshops. In addition, he designed the cars, building blocks, games and doll furniture, that were hand-made by his team of patients. Verzuu tested the quality of his toys on his own children. He immersed himself in art and architecture, with which he developed a strong preference for abstract lines and bright colours found in the 1920s group, De Stijl. ADO toys, therefore, are curiously avant-garde, inspired by the great artists of the time. In 2012, they were on show as part of the ‘Century of the Child: Growing by Design, 1900-2000' exhibition in MoMA, New York. The same year, the CODA museum in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.

Rare collectible toy large toy truck designed by Ko Verzuu for Ado Holland in 1950. Ado means Arbeid door onvolwaardigen, translated; labor by incapacitated, which makes this an even more special piece. Toys by Ado are being highly collected at the moment, even more than ever cause this is very decorative combined with 1950s furniture from all countries! Very nice red, blue and yellow truck, handmade and hand painted. This is a service truck with seperate wooden carts to be loaded on and off with a little winch. De Bijenkorf sold a lot of Ado furniture in the 30s-60s. Ado toys have a great charm because of their played look and original age wear but this one is very well kept. This car is in a fantastic original condition. Would be an amazing addition to any interior or collection as a decorative object with a beautiful history. Have a look at the large collection of trucks we have available at the moment. Jacobus Johannes Josephus (Ko) Verzuu, a former construction supervisor from Utrecht, led the ADO workshops.
