Ado Ko Verzuu decorative toy skully for ADO ca 1950s

About the Item

Very rare and toy designed by Ko Verzuu for Ado Holland in the 1950s. Ado means ‘Arbeid door onvolwaardigen’, translated; labor by incapacitated. Very nice colorful skully, handmade and hand colored. With metal logo tag on back. This is a skully or kart, designed around 1953. Ko Verzuu designed all toys by Ado, nearly 1000 different pieces exist. He got his inspiration from De Stijl and Rietveld furniture what everybody can see in his designs. But Ko Verzuu used more color then de Stijl. The decent but expensive toys were mainly for sale at large department stores such as Metz & Co and De Bijenkorf. The skully is in very good vintage condition! An amazing addition to any interior or collection. Height: 29 cm Width: 80 cm Depth: 28 cm Ko Verzuu - Designer of the cars, trains and furniture was Ko Verzuu (1901 - 1971). With his designs he followed the sleek design and bright colors of the De Stijl art movement, but characteristics of other art movements can also be found in his designs. Verzuu was well aware of the art of his time. Verzuu was strongly inspired by the architects and furniture designers Gerrit Rietveld and Henk Wouda. The toy was marked with a metal tag with the ado logo or with a brand.
