Pair of Creative Kokeshi by Usaburo, Japan, 1990s

About the Item

Beautiful pair of Creative Kokeshi made in the 1990 by Usaburo. Colorful and creative designs, with this peculiar haircut that is almost Usaburo's signature. They have been each one awarded by a Ministry Prize when they were made. Dimensions : -Kokeshi with leaves : H28,5cm / D9cm -Kokeshi with Camellia : H25,5cm / D9,5cm The kokeshi in few words ? Handmade in Japan, these dolls come from the Tohoku region, which has lots of natural hot springs and where they were sold as souvenirs to the tourists. They come in a variety of shapes, colors, sizes and decorations, from the most traditional one to the most creative one, and the craftsmen who make them are awarded (among which the coveted Prime Minister Award) for the most beautiful kokeshi of the year.
