Staffordshire Cottage Still Bank, English, circa 1880
Located in Incline Village, NV
Very attractive and well-made decorative and colorful Staffordshire porcelain money box or savings bank; made in England, indicative of the style potters from that region employed, circa 1880. Nicely detailed with green floral facie, orange double pane windows and front door, and a white painted cottage with brown steps and green fauna at entry. There were no "coin traps" or provisions for coin removal so banks such as these are rare since smashing or breaking the bank was the only method by which the money could be retrieved. The bank is in very good all original condition with only a minor "hairline" repair to one of the chimney stacks (see image). It is very sound and done a long time ago and is hardly noticeable. Being a cross collectible, this would be a very unique addition for a Staffordshire collector indeed (the subject being a money box), or a welcome compliment to any still bank...

"Cat Boat" Mechanical Toy Penny Bank, American, circa 1968
By Utexiqual Products
Located in Incline Village, NV
In near mint and all original condition this vintage mechanical bank appeals to both sailing enthusiasts and bank collectors; perhaps a collector of "cat" memorabelia as well. The theme depicts two sailors riding their boat in full sail. It is quite substantial in both size and weight. To operate, (with the lever pushed all the way in from the left); place a coin vertically above the left arm of the sailor in red; from the right; push the lever all the way in. The sail and Boom hits the sailor, knocking him over as the coin drops into the bank. The other sailor moves forward while manning the tiller. The bank is named "Cat Boat...

San Francisco Trolley Toy Friction Car. Japan, circa 1950s
Located in Incline Village, NV
San Francisco trolley toy Friction cable car; made of all tin; important to note because this was the first of it's kind having been made in the 1950s. They were all tin (no plastic); 7 1/4" long (not shorter); green (not red or multi-clored); "Bay and Taylor St" placard; #504" and most importantly the figures are actual FIGURES made of formed pressed steel and then hand painted and lithographed. Cheaper later models were simply lithographed into the flat sheet steel. Also, my example works (see video). It is a friction toy...

"Santa Riding A Polar Bear" Still Bank, American, circa 1988
By Reynolds Toys
Located in Incline Village, NV
Made of heavy cast aluminum and hand painted, this sturdy, finely detailed still bank depicts a whimsical "Santa Riding a Polar Bear". It is brightly painted in red and white, with multiple colors to the toys in the pack on his back. Santa holds on to a cast rein as he sits side saddle on the polar bear. Coins are deposited in the slot provided behind Santa's left shoulder (see image). Coins are removed by undoing the bank and turning the slotted screw. This screw has never been turned and the bank has never been taken apart to remove coins. This American made toy savings bank was made in 1988 (see image) by the Reynolds Toy Company of Falls Church, Virginia. They specialized in the manufacture of well made cast metal penny banks. You will not see them all over the place as only 75 examples were produced. This is stamped #14 (see image). The bank is in mint condition. Dimensions: 5 1/4" long x 2" wide x 5" high I am a leading specialist in the field of antique coin banks...

Mechanical Bank "Chief Big Moon, " American, circa 1899
Located in Incline Village, NV
"Chief Big Moon" cast iron mechanical bank is one of the few western theme banks in the mechanical bank collecting field. It was manufactured in 1899 by the J. & E. Stevens Company in Cromwell, Connecticut. This is one of the favorite banks of most collectors because, in addition to attractive "shelf appeal", the action of the bank incorporates the element of surprise. To operate; a coin is placed under the fish in front of the pond. Press the lever on the top, middle, side, of the bank. The frog will spring out of the pond, attempting to grab the fish, as the Indian (who is sitting in front of a fire) raises it out of the reach of the frog. While this is going on, the coin drops into the bank. To reset the bank for another deposit, lift up the pond and place the frog back underneath (look at "before" and "after" images). In addition to the frog, Indian, fish, and two white ducks on the blue pond, the bank is decorated in Indian decor...

American Tin Platform Horse Toy Attributed to Althof, Bergmann & Co., circa 1874
By Althof Bergmann and Co.
Located in Incline Village, NV
Toys of this nature would have been made for children to drag around the floor by a string (note the small hole in front of the platform), or pushed along and played with on the floor. This American tin platform horse pull toy (also referred to as a floor toy), is in all original paint and condition save for a very minor solder repair where two of the hoofs meet the platform. It is almost a miracle that it has survived at all due to it's fragility and rough play it likely encountered. It is hand-painted in brown to the horse with an orange saddle and a red band below, with a green hand-painted platform. Note some of the gold stenciling still present to both sides of the upper front body of the horse. No primer was used so the paint, typically did not last very long, especially after a few years of being played with; definitely not expected to last for over 140 years! Toys of this age and rarity are almost always repainted, so when one is found in it's original condition it is usually in a collection. The pinnacle of the American tin toy manufacture was from 1865 through 1890. Very few have maker's marks and only a few "jobber's" catalogues are extant, but this tin toy is most certainly from the premier toy makers and inventors, Althof Bergmann and Company of New York City, New York which was formed in 1867. The unique fancy, original, heart shaped wheels, the flat green platform...
