"Lady Seated in Chair Reading" Money Box/ Still Bank by a. Biagioni, Circa 1925
Located in Incline Village, NV
Penny bank made by Italian Angelo Biagioni for the French market (see image with marking on the back of the chair), circa 1910. Biagioni, born in 1870, was a well known sculptor who crafted objects for resale to the European market. Money boxes (or still banks as they are called in America) were one of the more unique and more difficult items to find by this artist as most objects were basic uni-dimensional sculptered pieces. What makes it more rare is the unfortunate requirement to break and smash the bank open to get the coins out, as there was no mechanism to remove the money. The subject matter of the bank is that of a nicely dressed older lady seated in a chair reading a book. The bank is in all original condition and paint with no restoration or touch-up of any kind. This is a nice addition to any bank or toy collection, or simply to have as a "stand alone" unique item. Dimensions : 4 1/4" deep x 3 3/8" wide x 8 5/8" high. Note: After 40 plus years of dealing and collecting toys and banks, I am justly qualified to guarantee and present the authenticity of antique and vintage still banks...

Staffordshire Cottage Still Bank, English, circa 1880
Located in Incline Village, NV
Very attractive and well-made decorative and colorful Staffordshire porcelain money box or savings bank; made in England, indicative of the style potters from that region employed, circa 1880. Nicely detailed with green floral facie, orange double pane windows and front door, and a white painted cottage with brown steps and green fauna at entry. There were no "coin traps" or provisions for coin removal so banks such as these are rare since smashing or breaking the bank was the only method by which the money could be retrieved. The bank is in very good all original condition with only a minor "hairline" repair to one of the chimney stacks (see image). It is very sound and done a long time ago and is hardly noticeable. Being a cross collectible, this would be a very unique addition for a Staffordshire collector indeed (the subject being a money box), or a welcome compliment to any still bank...

"Cat Boat" Mechanical Toy Penny Bank, American, circa 1968
By Utexiqual Products
Located in Incline Village, NV
In near mint and all original condition this vintage mechanical bank appeals to both sailing enthusiasts and bank collectors; perhaps a collector of "cat" memorabelia as well. The theme depicts two sailors riding their boat in full sail. It is quite substantial in both size and weight. To operate, (with the lever pushed all the way in from the left); place a coin vertically above the left arm of the sailor in red; from the right; push the lever all the way in. The sail and Boom hits the sailor, knocking him over as the coin drops into the bank. The other sailor moves forward while manning the tiller. The bank is named "Cat Boat...

"Lady and Baby by The Wishing Well" Still Bank, German, circa 1910
Located in Incline Village, NV
Very interesting wooden still bank with lots going on. All hand-carved of wood with four small circular risers elevating the base. There is a water pump with a bucket hanging from it and a metal pumper attached to the top. A hand-carved and painted brown pine tree is attached at the opposite corner with a large water well to the other corner. A lady with outstretched arms and a "King Cole" type headdress seems to be reaching out to her baby dressed in green who is lying down on top of the well, next to the coin slot. Perhaps she is about to bathe her. A bird looks on from atop the perch protruding from the pump. Dominant hand painted colors are different shades of brown and all original with no repaint. Very nice all original paint and condition with a small chip missing here and there to this handmade, kind of "folksy", and very well done bank (see images). A round circular key lock trap for releasing the coins is on the underneath, along with "Wishing Well German" handwritten on the opposite corner (see image). Whether written by an earlier collector or maker is not known. Dimensions: 4" square x 3 5/8" high. A unique one of a kind piece to add to a collection of still banks and a nice addition to a Folk Art collection (from my own collection). I am a leading specialist in the field of antique coin...

"Santa and Reindeer" Still Bank, American, circa 1980s
By Charles C. Reynolds
Located in Incline Village, NV
Made of heavy cast aluminum and hand painted, this sturdy, finely detailed still bank depicts an oversized Santa Claus standing next to one of his reindeer. Santa is brightly painted in red and white, with an orange lit lantern, and realistic flesh tones; while the reindeer is brown with bone colored antlers. Santa is waving, while leaning against his reindeer. Coins are deposited in the slot provided directly behind Santa on top of the reindeer's back. Coins are removed by undoing the bank and turning the slotted screw on the side of the deer (although I don't recommend it because the screw has never been turned since it has never been used). This American made toy savings bank was made in the 1980s by the Reynolds Toy Company of Falls Church, Virginia. They specialized in the manufacture of well made cast metal penny banks. You will not see them all over the place as only a limited number of examples were produced (less than 100----this is number "22" stamped on the hindquarter of the deer. The number "86" on the back of Santa probably references the total number made; so, this is number 22 of 86 manufactured in the 1980s (see image). The bank is in mint condition. Dimensions: 6" long x 2 1/2" wide x 6" high I am a leading specialist in the field of antique coin banks...

Santa at Chimney (Exchange National Bank)
Located in Incline Village, NV
1) "Santa At The Chimney" still bank was made by the Miller Bank Service Company" located in Chicago, Illinois in 1925. An inscription attesting to it's genesis is embossed on the underneath (see image). "Santa At Chimney" still bank is documented in Andy Moore's "The penny Bank Book" as #104 on page 68. The bank is made of lead, which is soft, leading to a slight bend upward on the Santa side of the base (see image). The bank is sound and solid and in completely all original condition and hand painted in red and white paint. It has a wonderful patina and a nicely detailed casting; in very good condition, especially considering it is a 100 year old lead bank. It still maintains it's hinged, key lock coin trap at the base. Coins are deposited in the slot provided at the top of the chimney (see images). The applied brass plaque on the front indicates that the bank was made for "The Exchange National Bank...

"Santa in A Race Car" Still Bank American, circa 1987
By Reynolds Toys
Located in Incline Village, NV
This finely detailed hand painted, heavy cast aluminum still bank depicts a whimsical Santa Claus running around in a brightly painted green race car delivering toys. Santa is in red and white; gold painted circular vents and radiator decorate the hood. Coins are deposited in the slot provided in the center of the front hood (see image). Coins are removed by undoing the slotted screw that holds the bank together on the side next to the door. This screw has never been turned and the bank has never been taken apart to remove coins. This American made toy savings bank was made in 1987 (see image with embossed marking on the inside of the tire) by the Reynolds Toy Company of Falls Church, Virginia.
