About the Item

Unusual Late 19th Century Standing Monkey Figure One of the most unusual and out of the ordinary pieces we have had the pleasure of present in our store. A complete one off and highly unusual /decorative object. This figure is hand-crafted in the form of a standing monkey which is made from leather, cowhide fur, papier Mache, glass eyes, silk, and cotton attire. The frame of this figure is made from wood and wire, the leather sections (legs, head and tail are stitched using leather thread). Rusty nails hold the skin across the head in place, and this figure could have either worn a wig or top hat at some point we assume. A charming yet weird thing with a zest of humour, one thing is for sure “you won’t find another one like it”. Recently uncovered from a private collector in Paris who owned it for over 20 years. Dimensions in inches: H 35” x W 13” x D 21” Age: Late 19th Century Origin: Unknown Condition: Aged Aged wear and tear across all the surfaces due to obvious use over the years. Rust on the metal surfaces, light splits, and aged dryness to the skin sections. The cloths are faded in areas, The fur is present but extremely fragile and can come off if moved too much. This is a very old item that’s made from natural material, and we have tried to show all the condition as best as possible, please expect imperfections as shown.
