About the Item

Exceptional sized, this wonderful large vintage birdcage is made of serrated cut iron with decorative friezes all in finesse and delicacy, enhanced with colors and gold. The shape of a fantasy castle pavilion with two side towers topped by flags. In the center, a decorated gable is centered by a clock. Small fences and stairs in the front. The cage opens on the back two apertures in the roof. A one of kind very highly executed masterpiece and almost impossible to find. This work is probably a journeyman's masterpiece from the 19th century, thanks to its beautiful high quality of execution and the very refined lines and details. Inspired by some royal family castles or by the famous Temperate House made of iron and glass in Kew Graden which is the world's largest surviving Victorian greenhouse. The transmission of know-how is the foundation of compagnonship. Since the 13th century, journeymen have been traveling and adapting their knowledge to new techniques and materials. "So far more than nine centuries "Les Compagnons du Devoir" the french official apprenticeship school (extended to other countries) has been providing high-quality training for young people in a variety of manual trades. Their training offers both traditional apprenticeships and higher-level skills training. Trainees move between workplaces all over France and also abroad, learning a trade but also about themselves, through the experience of different people and cultures".
