Lombard cage with attached arm made of iron and sheet metal

About the Item

The iron and sheet metal cage is cylindrical in shape, with a door sliding upward and on either side two small feeders (one for grain and one for water), with a dome-shaped top. A pinecone is placed at the apex of the dome, culminating in a ring so that the cage can be hung on the arm hook. The cage is to be considered a rare specimen as it dates back to the early decades of the 19th century and is still in excellent condition. The arm holding the cage, on the other hand, came into being in the 18th century with a special function: it is equipped with a caster that had the function of bringing down the chandeliers to insert candles and bringing them back up so that they would illuminate the room. To date, the two objects appear to be complementary and visually harmonious.
