Early 19th Century French Fire Screen

About

Dating from the Empire or Restoration period, an unusual folding fire screen. Of solid mahogany, with an eagle finial and swan necks and heads of brass. Gilt bronze mounts to the central column, and "wings". Upholstered in dark blue fabric with stars on both sides. The entire screen raised on a round stepped base. The wings fold in, in either direction. With "wings" fully open, it is 30 inches wide. The 2 wings come together completely when not in use.
