A Fine Louis XV Style Giltwood and Oil on Panel Three-Panelled Screen

About the Item

A Fine Louis XV Style Giltwood and Oil on Panel Three-Panelled Screen, Painted By Juderías Caballero (Spanish, 1867-1951). Signed 'J. Caballero. Paris'. The giltwood frame enclosing three panes of bevelled glass above three painted panels, on one side depicting dancing nymphs and putti, the opposite, depicting a statue and flowering trees. This three-leaf screen is finely painted with beautiful woodland nymphs representing the ecstasy of Spring. The dancing figures writhe as they spiral upwards, they are enchanted by cupid and encircled and enraptured by flowers. Compare the ceiling at the sumptuous ballroom at the Cerralbo Museum in Madrid which is painted by Juderías Caballero with cloudborne nymphs. France, Circa 1895. Máximo Juderías Caballero, or Juderías Caballero, (Spain, 1867-1951) was born in Zaragoza in Northern Spain. He studied drawing at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Luis in Zaragoza, and later at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. Caballero was active in Paris from the 1890s as a painter and decorative artist specialising in historical subjects, figure compositions, genre scenes and interiors with figures. His paintings have appeared on the market.
