Four-Panel Painted Screen after Jean Cocteau

A striking surrealist hand-painted floor screen comprised of four canvas panels with profiles centering a "visage de faune" (faun's face), a frequent subject of Cocteau's art. The modern folding room divider is colorfully decorated in bright yellow, purple, red and teal blue / green on a black background, and is raised on low profile, square, ebonized wood feet. The backside of the painting is simply black. Each panel measures 23.63 x 64.88 inches, with the feet being 1.19 inches high. The screen bears a signature that reads Jean Cocteau. Jean Cocteau was an enormously influential French artist and writer, and is known as one of the major figures of Dada and Surrealism. Creating paintings, novels, poetry, plays, and films, Cocteau established himself as a leading creative force in Paris. A regular member of the avant-garde circles during the rise of Modernism, he maintained long-term friendships with artists such as Pablo Picasso, Tristan Tzara, Francis Picabia, Man Ray, and others. As documentation on this work is not currently available, it is listed for sale as after or attributed to Jean Cocteau. A very decorative conversation piece that will add a pop of color to any interior.
