Walnut Veneered Divider by Gianmaria Potenza for Banco Di Roma, 70s

About the Item

Large panel, walnut veneer, scratched and brushed design with black Indian ink, gold and white tempera hints. The panel is 173cmX325 high and divided into 2 vertically and joins at the center with a full-length splice with male and female joint. The fixing to the wall and by means of screws that must be inserted in the appropriate holes that will then be stuccoed and retouched with black ink. Gianmaria Potenza was born in Venice in 1936. He enrolled and finished his studies in 1956. At the Art Institute of Venice. Potenza studied under the enlightened guidance of Giorgio Wenter Marini, who immediately recognized the young student's talent and encouraged his artistic career. He attended the Venice Biennale in 1954 and 1956, and later in 1958, 1960, 1966, 1968, 1986, 1995 and 2009. Since the beginning Potenza has practiced different forms of art: from graffiti to painting on wood and velvet, from engraving on glass to cement and metal. At the end of the 50s Potenza met Eng. Ivone Grassetto, owner of one of the largest Italian construction companies. This acquaintance represents an important turning point in the artist's career and gives him the opportunity to have numerous other assignments, including the Automobil Club of Padua, the Banco di Roma and the Aga Khan. Throughout his career, Potenza has known and collaborated with world famous architects such as Gio Ponti, Pier Luigi Nervi, Franco Albini, Andrea Busiri Vici, Luigi Vietti, Jacques Couelle and many others. One of his main clients has been Banco di Roma since the beginning. Many branches in the main Italian cities - Rome, Milan, Turin, Florence, Venice, just to name a few - are adorned with its large decorative panels.
