About the Item

These just beg to be freed from their traveler's vanity stand, which would have been an inside fitting of a large late-1800s traveler's valise at one time, but now exists on its own, as shown. They are fabulous as a group, as we've shown you in our first photo, on a sterling silver and gold vermeil tray (sold separately, and is an American silver tray we have listed). The set is fabulous, and includes a traveler's liqueur flask with self-encased drinking cup or 'timbale'. Those normally sell very well all on their own, but this one remains in the original set so you can see how elegantly the Grand Tour travelers of the 1800s traveled. I'm sure once the Titanic's sunken body is mined for treasures, there will be many of these old sets among the waterlogged trappings of the luxury travelers of that ill-fated voyage, but none will be in this fine a condition. Yet this is the kind of set of luxury goods the travelers would have had on the dressing table in their suite, no doubt. This one is monogrammed with intertwined D and A, making me almost tempted to change my name. Isn't it just breathtakingly beautiful!

Very good to excellent condition, from the leather scabbard into which each of these bottles originally were fitted, to the bottles themselves, and their fine French sterling silver tops that are heavily coated in 18k yellow gold, or 'vermeil'. The only piece that shows a bit more wear to the 18k gold layer is the timbale, or drinking cup into which the liqueur flask inserts, and it's mildly showing a little silver among the gold. The others are high gold, as you can see from our images. I don't know if you'll want to use these and tuck the scabbard into your own Grand Tour luggage (a real WOW if you're going on a cruise, you know) or if you want them for your dressing table or master bath and plan to 'tray' them as we're also showing. If you need a tray, though, the one we used in our photo is for sale separately. Just ask us to direct you to it.
