About the Item

Unique and highly practical Gothic coat rack with cane and umbrella stand and mirror. This large and beautiful Gothic hall Stand is another great example of the quality of the workmanship in late 19th and early 20th century Europe. Hall stands of this size and beauty are a rare find and to have found one in the Gothic Style in this superb condition more than made our day. The open design makes it extra attractive and the fact that this Gothic piece is relatively 'calm' in design and not overly carved, makes us believe that this must be a Dutch make. The Gothic details are subtle and of a beautiful quality, both in design and execution. It could not be more 'honest' either, because it comes with the original beveled mirror, all thirteen hand forged hooks (double ones) and it even comes with the original zinc liner in the base. Have you also noticed the perfect division of the compartments in image four? On the left you can see 6 smaller square openings specifically for walking canes. The larger ones with the zinc liner below obviously are for umbrellas, but in this day and age one could use these compartments (just like the beautiful ones on the outsides) for all kinds of items. The little plateau above the drawer is perfect for dropping your keys on. The tiger oak drawer itself opens an shuts perfectly and it comes with a striking, Gothic rosette & pear-shape, wrought iron handle. Apart from a little wear to the original, beveled mirror this Gothic hall Stand could not be in better condition. This one of a kind antique is perfect for both the private collector who is looking for the perfect hall Stand, but it would also look marvelous in a church or monastery. It stands as strong and stabile as the day it was handcrafted and because of its undeep and open design this large antique has a much 'calmer' presence than other designs of this size would have.
