About the Item

This is the 1960s foldable valet by Adam Hoff & Poul Østergaard for Virum Møbelsnedkeri, mainly retailed by Illums Boglighus. It comes in a construction intended for wall mounting. The lacquered back is made of masonite. Frames, coat hanger and pegs are made from solid teakwood. Here you can see a skillful craftsmanship in this perfect corner joints and the bowled top for cufflinks and jewellery. There’s three carved pegs for belts and ties and a softly rounded coat hanger with small jacket for skirts. Dimensions from the wall in unfolded position is 28 cm and the folding flap is held up by two leather straps. The valet is marked, partly with label "Made in Denmark - Virum VM Møbelsnedkeri” on the undersides left, and also with a label on the back, “Design Adam Hoff & Poul Østergaard”. ____________________ Adam Hoff is a Danish furniture designer born 1932. In 1954, he graduated as a cabinet maker at the company Normina in Frederiksberg, Denmark. He studied from 1956 to 1959 at the school of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen and was subsequently employed in various design studios such as Karen and Ebbe Clemmesen, Vilhelm Lauritzen, Børge Mogensen, Kritian Vedel and Vilhelm Wohlert. Poul Østergaard (1933-2010) was a Danish architect and designer. He became a carpenter in 1953 and continued at the school of Arts and Crafts and finished as an architect in 1958. In addition to being employed by the Aarhus School of Architecture since 1968, he spent years of work at several design studios before he established his own studio. Adam Hoff & Poul Østergaard have designed furniture for the Copenhagen Cabinetmaker’s Exhibitions but became best known for their classic Wall Mounted Valet.
