About the Item

Erik Höglund is a Swedish designer and artist. After studying sculpture at Konstfack (now the National College of Arts, Crafts and Design) in Stockholm, he worked as a designer at BODA from 1953 to 1973. Inspired by Nordic traditions and indigenous culture, his primitive style, which conveys a sense of warmth, brought a new wind to glass craftsmanship. His unique style, unconstrained by conventional norms, was initially met with resistance from master craftsmen, retailers, and consumers alike. However, Höglund persevered, earning trust through his passion for craftsmanship and relentless dedication. In 1957, he won the prestigious Lunning Prize, awarded to designers in Scandinavia. At the age of 25, he was the youngest recipient in the prize's history, joining a distinguished list of past winners including Hans Wegner, Tapio Wirkkala, Kaj Franck, and Timo Sarpaneva. From 1973 onwards, he focused his activities as an artist, working at PUKEBERG and Pilchuck Glass School, and continued his work at Studioglas Stromshyttan until his death in 1998. Throughout his career, he created over 150 public monuments using various materials such as glass, iron, and copper, both domestically and internationally. The artist depicted working in a glass factory in a small mountain village in the film ‘My Life as a Dog’ directed by Swedish master Lasse Hallström is based on Hoglund. In 1962, the wrought iron division of BODA, a company founded by local blacksmiths, was established. This cow-shaped coat hanger is made using the traditional technique of wrought iron, shaped by the skilled hammer work of master blacksmiths. A rare piece. ※In good condition with no noticeable damage.
