About the Item

Modular coat hanger set produced by FIARM Scorzè in Italy in the 1960s. Design Carlo De Carli. Made of curved wood with holes for housing the bakelite knobs. Chest of drawers in lacquered wood with drawer front in walnut. Carlo De Carli (Milan, November 7, 1910 - Milan, March 3, 1999) was an Italian architect, designer, architectural theorist and academic, one of the protagonists of modern architecture, industrial design, and their teaching. He was born in Milan from a middle-class family with maternal roots on Lake Garda, whose almost Mediterranean nature (olive trees, vines, cypresses, "lemon trees") will be a constant presence in his work. After his classical studies and a degree in Architecture, he worked for a year in Gio Ponti's studio, which he will succeed in 1962 at the Politecnico di Milano in the chair of Interior Architecture, Furniture and Decoration. He realizes most of his works of architecture, set-up and design from the postwar period to the early seventies. His work as a designer, closely linked to theoretical thinking, puts the person at the center of the project, favors the process of forming spaces and objects rather than their being and opens up to their reciprocal relationships. It is a constant research that urges him to create new forms, contributing to the renewal of taste and trends in Italian architecture and design. Founded by Vittorio Livi in 1973, FIARM design, develops and produces furnishing elements made following both artisanal and industrial processes, effectively blending tradition and innovation, manual processing and design. Design objects that do not recall the time in which they are produced, but resist the passing of years and fashions.
