Mid-20th Century, French Brass and Glass Magazine Rack Maison Jansen Style

About the Item

Keep your newspapers organized and neat inside this elegant vintage magazine holder. Crafted in Paris, France circa 1950 and attributed to Maison Jansen, the rack is built of brass and smoked glass. It stands on scrolled feet ending with acanthus leaf motifs and is dressed with a large center handle embellished with dolphin figures on both sides. The rack is further decorated with retractable and folding glass panes, over an oval bottom glass tray. The book holder is both useful, practical and stylish. The newspaper stand is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated gilt finish. Place it in a living room, library, office or bedroom, whichever is your go-to reading room! Maison Jansen was a Paris-based interior decoration office founded in 1880 by Dutch-born Jean-Henri Jansen. Jansen is considered the first truly global design firm, serving clients in Europe, Latin America, North America and the Middle East. Not originally equipped with its own workrooms for producing furniture, the firm began by relying upon antiques and the furniture contracted to outside cabinetmakers. By the early 1890s Maison Jansen had established its own manufacturing capacity producing furniture of contemporary design, as well as reproductions, primarily in the Louis XIV, Louis XVI, Directoire, and Empire styles. Measures: 22" W x 13" D x 20" H.
