About the Item

Amazing and rare Art Deco Modernist magazine rack. Design by Frits Spanjaard for L.O.V. Oosterbeek. Striking Dutch design from the 1920s. Solid oak and original oak veneered frame with two original macassar ebony veneered shelves. Elegant and stylish solid macassar ebony grip on top. This wonderful Art Deco magazine rack by Frits Spanjaard is in very good condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. The Modernist look of this decorative piece of furniture is also know in the Netherlands under the name Haagse School. The Haagse School was inspired by the designs of the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The famous Dutch Art Magazine Wendingen published a series of articles on Frank Lloyd Wright in 1925. Well known architects of the Haagse School are Hendrik Wouda, Jan Wils, Frits Spanjaard, Cor Alons and Jan Brunott.
