1950s Austrian Modernist Umbrella Stand Brass Bamboo, Josef Frank, Auböck Style
About the Item
Exceptional 1950s Austrian modernist umbrella stand, which probably belongs to one of the wonderful designs by Aubock, Hagenauer, Josef Frank for Haus & Garten or Kalmar. It is made of bamboo and tubular brass with lovely small ball screw nuts. The rare umbrella stand which has an oval shape is 49 cm / 19.29 inches tall, 38 cm / 14.96 inches wide and 22 cm / 8.66 inches deep. At the bottom of the inside is a movable brass bowl (rain-drop-catcher) to find. This authentic piece of Mid-Century Modern design stays after years in a very good and original vintage condition. The bamboo is strong with no cracks and the partly patinated brass parts show the typical and characteristic wear consistent with age. This piece is functional and highly collectable, great design.
