About the Item

Scandinavian Modern large signed linen fabric "Handprinted Timmer (timber), design by the Swedish famous architect Sven Markelius for NK:s Textilkammare." 1958. Designed in 1958. 450 centimeter length available, plus 20 cm. 150 cm depth. Handprinted by NK:s Textilkammare. This fabric has never been used and very rare to find. Excellent condition. Should look great on a wall or use to be used as a statement piece. Sven Markelius was an. eminent Swedish architect who introduced the International Style into Sweden in the 1920s. Markelius achieved international recognition with his design for the Swedish Pavilion at the New York World’s Fair in 1939. His own home in Kevinge, a low-roofed, sprawling villa among rocks and trees, became a prototype for informal, “site-conscious” houses throughout the world.

"Marta Maas-Fjetterström is for the rugs what Picasso has been for art in the 20th century". Says Anette Granlund, Swedish Antique Expert on textiles. A vintage handwoven modern rug and a beautiful early example in muted tones on gren background with medallion pattern. Handwoven in a famous pattern called “Dukater” that was first composed in 1924 by Märta Måås-Fjetterström atelier. This is all about greens, yellow, brown and pink tones. Good condition. Cleaned and with new reconditioned ends. The working weavers in MMF atelier at Båstad also used to make rugs for themselves. Märta Måås-Fjetterström allowed and encourage the weavers to manufacture there own carpets for personal use. Therefore its not allowed to put a signature. But its still a MMF carpet...
