About the Item

Uzbek block printing is an old tecnique of decorating a textile with wood blocks, on mainly hand loomed thick cotton fabric. Local name for these textiles is ‘chitgarlik ‘ and the maker called a ‘chitgar’. Nowadays, good old ones are not easy to come by and they seem to have been real utiliterian textiles for various purposes from the lining of a chapan to a quilt. The textile above is an antique and used one therefore not in brand new condition. Uzbek wood block print textiles are traditional fabrics from Uzbekistan that are decorated using a wood block printing technique. Wood block printing is a form of textile printing where wooden blocks with carved designs are used to apply color or patterns onto the fabric. In Uzbekistan, wood block printing has been practiced for centuries and is closely associated with the country's rich cultural heritage. The prints often feature intricate geometric patterns, floral motifs, and traditional symbols. These textiles are widely used for various purposes, including clothing, home decor, and ceremonial occasions.
