About the Item

This cushion is a one-of-a-kind and part of a sustainability project. It has been created from an up-cycled, recycled luxury fabric, used with the intentions of promoting a more eco-friendly environment by using already existing materials. We both celebrate and cherish the past and take care with rare and precious vintage and antique materials. Through layers of carefully added backing the delicate fabric has been fortified for longevity and thus preserved. (The original designer/brand has been fully credited below) Custom-made one-of-a kind luxury oversized style cushion (pillow) created from a stunning vintage silk Salvatore Ferragamo fashion scarf in an elaborate and elegant design. Salvatore Ferragamo was an innovative shoe designer from Milan renowned for his iconic 1930s cork wedges and the 1947 ‘invisible shoe’. In fact in the 1980s Ferragamo used his early shoe designs as prints on their scarves. He first introduced silk scarves to his collections in the 1950s, the earliest depicting African zoological animals and flora theme, the brand is still known today for producing exotic animals and organic motifs on their luxury Italian scarves. This particular silk is a very rare and exceptionally beautiful piece. The large regal cat prowls dangerously towards the viewer displaying, it’s movements frozen in time with it’s seductive feline curves and curling tail in the air, through a sea of bamboo with a confident, challenging stare. Note its exquisite detail, with a cleverly drawn pattern illustrating flower and foliage covering the tiger, making it appear delicately incased in an extra skin of camouflage. With long luscious stalks and intoxicating muted blue leaves adding even more charm to the scene. Placed proudly below is the ‘Salvatore Ferragamo’ signature resting in a box plaque against a bed of deep navy. A spectacular statement piece for any interior. On a quality twill silk soft to the touch, with a sumptuous subtle sheen and beautiful texture with diagonal grain which was hand rolled and hemmed before being carefully unraveled to create our cushion. Backed in new 100% pure Irish linen, the aristocrat of textiles and certified by the Irish Linen Guild, lined in a layer of natural bamboo wadding, filled with new plush duck feather insert and a concealed zip. The traditional oatmeal color linen is a combination of the unbleached raw color of the natural flax plant on the weft intertwined with pristine white on the warp, resulting in a beautiful mottled effect. In perfect condition. A contemporary cushion (pillow) constructed with antique elements by using fragments of precious fabric.
