Thank-you for looking. Custom made one-of-a-kind set of luxury cushions (pillows) created from an exquisite vintage silk Pierre Cardin fashion scarf in an attractive geometric pattern. With bold stripes alternating in beige and an array of greens. From a very delicate silk, soft and luxurious to the touch. Note the fabulous iconic signature along the bottom right, in its fluid handwritten style. Italian born Pierre Cardin began his career early when at only 14 he worked as a clothier’s apprentice learning the basics of fashion design and construction. After World War II, during which he worked in the Red Cross, he studied Architecture in Paris, an element in his life that has certainly influenced his work. Trained as a tailor in France he worked for both Schiaparelli and Dior before going on to launch his own couture label in 1953. Most known for his science fiction themed ‘Space Age’ collections an example being not only the ‘Bubble dress’ but his quirky bubble themed house sitting on the French Rivera near Cannes. In the 60s he began displaying his logo on his garments which wasn’t done at the time and seen especially shocking by the Paris design elite. Automaker American Motors Corporation (AMC) incorporated Cardin's unconventional designs onto the AMC Javelin 1972 which to this day are still the most eccentric car interiors ever seen. Interestingly the seats were a multi coloured stripe with noticeable similarities to our silk in theme. He prefers geometric shapes and motifs, as seen in our cushion, often ignoring the female form. The pair consists of two very similar pieces made from the same fabric but each is unique in where the pattern falls and one features the logo. These striking pieces would fit well into a contemporary or retro inspired interior. They are the perfect Mid-Century Modern accessories, make spectacular statement, versatile and unique, tonally would also look fantastic in a tropical setting. On a soft sumptuous silk which feels divine to the touch. Backed in new 100% pure Irish linen, the aristocrat of textiles and certified by the Irish Linen Guild, lined in a layer of natural bamboo wadding, filled with new plush duck feather insert and a concealed zip. The traditional oatmeal color linen is a combination of the unbleached raw colour of the natural flax plant on the weft intertwined with pristine white on the warp, resulting in a beautiful mottled melange effect.
