Vintage Kuba orange and black handwoven patchwork African decorative pillow. Handwoven patchwork and appliqué raffia African decorative lumbar pillow with labyrinth pattern and orange beads woven on the textile. Light gris color cotton backing. Decorative pillow designed and handcrafted in the USA. Feather or down custom made pillow insert. Handstitched closure. (Appliqué is the most popular weaving technique among the Kuba. They use a stencil to cut decorative designs out of a brightly colored cloth and then sew or apply them onto a cloth of a different color. The designs are then placed on top of yet another cloth. The most familiar colors are dark brown or black on an ecru background. “Ecru describes the shade greyish, pale yellow or a light greyish-yellowish brown. It is often used to describe such fabrics as silk and linen in their unbleached state. Ecru comes from the French word écru, which means literally "raw" or "unbleached.” Many European and American collectors have noted the striking similarities between Kuba appliqués and Matisse dancing figures.)
