Pauline Esparon Flax Textile, L'écoucheur Collection

$495.40per item

About

The textile is part of L'écoucheur collection, valuing the natural expressivity of flax at its raw state. By working directly with the primary scotched fibers, this project aims to presents new aspects, tactility’s and properties of linen, often standardized in weaving forms. The textile is made by using stitching technique, allowing to avoid the spinning of the fiber to preserve its natural shine. The surface plays with the natural creasing tendency of flax to make it a quality. The feel of the textile is soft and rough and can act as a tapestry while hanging, a room divider as well as a blanket. The project also aims to encourage and diversify a local network of production, based in France. The collection is exclusively made in Normandy and can be tailored for other sizes on request. Price is per meter (150cm width).

About The Maker

Pauline Esparon plays with the notion of «rawness», a form of archaism, a primary state of materials before their standardization by industry. Forms from the vegetal, the animal or the mineral worlds become playful and can be intertwined. Her works always start with the investigation of materials, and slide from an instinctive research to a definite shape. Objects and furnitures are plural, to constitute a collection, an ensemble, an atmosphere. This approach, is as sensible as contextual, by questionning both the qualities of materials and the culture of materials, their heritage, their survival, their systems. Each project envisions a proposition to tweak production for the better and consider humble materials, processes, purposes of production as well as possible perspectives for crafts.
