Art Deco Rock-Ola "Loboy" Porcelain Enamel Coin-Op Penny Scale
By Rock-Ola
Located in Norwalk, CT
Beginning in the Late 19th Century, the penny scale offered a means for passersby to quickly check their weight without going to the trouble of seeing a doctor; simultaneously - and perhaps more notably - they provided an irresistible opportunity for businesses to advertise and earn extra revenue. Penny scales quickly became a platform for creativity in advertising and design, as machines competed to attract the attention of customers on the street. This scale - the "LoBoy" model - was produced by the jukebox manufacturing company Rock-Ola in the 1930s and features a Classic skyscraper-inspired Art Deco Silhouette in black and white porcelain enamel. The mirrored glass display features instructions ("Stand Still - Keep Clear") as well as a reference chart which provides 'healthy' weights for men and women by height. The scale itself has been modified to function without needing to deposit a coin. This piece would make a super unique and functional addition to any retro bathroom!

Engraved Decanter in the Form of a Bottle TG Hawkes & Co., circa 1930
By T. G. Hawkes & Co.
Located in Melbourne, Victoria
A decanter in the form of a bottle, with sterling silver top and entensive engraved decoration. The lock is a convincing sham, which looks secure but opens easily without a key. The top is stamped Sterling, and the base has an etched mark for Hawkes. T.G. Hawkes & Co. was a prominent American glass manufacturer that operated from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. The company was founded by Thomas G. Hawkes in 1880 in Corning, New York, which was already a center of glass manufacturing. T.G. Hawkes & Co. specialized in the production of high-quality cut glass, also known as crystal glass, which was a popular luxury item during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The company quickly established a reputation for producing some of the finest cut glass in the world, and its products were highly sought after by wealthy Americans and Europeans. Hawkes' cut glass was known for its intricate designs, precise cuts, and brilliant shine. The company's designs ranged from simple geometric patterns to more intricate floral and scroll designs, and many pieces were also engraved with intricate scenes and motifs. T.G. Hawkes & Co. was a major supplier of glassware to luxury retailers, such as Tiffany & Co. and Cartier, and its products were used in many prestigious events, such as White House state dinners...

"Wrestlers, Runners, Warriors, Equestrian, " Set of Drawings, Paul Cadmus, 1930s
By Paul Cadmus
Located in Philadelphia, PA
Drawn during the time when Paul Cadmus produced some of his most famous -- and infamous -- paintings with satiric themes such as "Shore Leave" and "The Fleet's in," but presaging his lifelong interest in the male nude, this set of four scenes depict male figures in scenes that would be familiar to artists going back to Roman and Greek times. One scene depicts two nudes in a wrestling match, another shows several nude figures in a headlong run, a third shows two men in battle, and the fourth depicts a nude figure taming a rearing horse. No doubt inspired by Classical sculptures, this set of drawings captures the energy and dynamics of interacting male figures, but without the very fine detail that he would bring to his countless male nude drawings in the 1950s, 60s and later. The drawings are signed, and the reverse retains an owner's label indicating the drawing was in the collection of William Tregoning, a gallerist who amassed a large collection of male figural art...
