Antique Wrought Iron Balcony Gate Console Table with Limestone Top
Located in Dallas, TX
Originally functioning as a balcony barrier, this antique painted wrought iron railing has been repurposed into a console table with a cream-colored limestone top. It was salvaged from a French style building in Argentina, which would have been constructed in the early 1900s. The limestone which surmounts the iron is 2 ½ inches thick and has pitched edges on the sides and the front. Much of the original white paint is still visible, but the iron has acquired a great worn patina thanks to oxidation and some minor losses. A large medallion composed of four water leaves sprouting from a pierced roundel is seen in the center of the frontage. Two scrolls emanate from each of the leaves in separate directions, forming a stylized fleur de lys (which is itself a water leaf) where the scrolls from neighboring leaves merge. The intricate central elements are surrounded by three tightly grouped circles, with the middle ring consisting of a series of beads. Four roundels (aligned with the water leaves) touch against the outer loop and are surrounded by yet another circle. A rumpled ribbon sits on top of this final ring and weaves in and out of the top section of the circle and the upper roundel. On both sides of the medallion, motifs alternate between elongated ovals and floral margents of decreasing size. The top and bottom are adorned pierced arches and cabochons (respectively) that are connected via beading. The motif on the left side consists of interlaced S-scrolls, known as guilloche, that are attached to the vertical rails by a series of roundels. Rectangular leaves can be seen above and below the guilloche. The right side is adorned with a similar margent as seen on the front. This recently converted wrought iron balcony gate...

Antique Painted Wrought Iron Balcony Gate Console with Limestone Top
Located in Dallas, TX
Originally functioning as a balcony barrier, this antique painted wrought iron railing has been repurposed into a console table with a cream-colored limestone top. It was salvaged from a French style building in Argentina, which would have been constructed in the early 1900s. Now, as a console table, the limestone which surmounts it, is 2 ½ inches thick and has a pitched edge on the sides and the front façade. The railing still contains much of its original white paint, but it has acquired a worn patina thanks to oxidation and some minor flaking. The motifs on the sides consist of interlaced S-scrolls, known as guilloche, that are attached to the vertical rails by a series of roundels. Rectangular leaves can be seen above and below the guilloche. On the front side, a lovely central pierced cartouche is surrounded by a laurel leaf garland. The cartouche is a water leaf surrounded by two ovals, with the outer ring having beading of cabochon. On top of the cartouche is a curled ribbon with a center roundel. On both sides of the cartouche, motifs alternate between elongated oval and floral margents of decreasing size. The top and bottom are adorned with waves known as Vitruvian scrolls. The waves come together in the center of the frontage as two C-scrolls. This recently converted wrought iron balcony gate...
