About the Item
Large Sottovento woollen carpet by Nathalie Du Pasquier for Post Design collection/Memphis
A woollen carpet handcrafted by different Nepalese artisans. Made in a limited edition of 36 signed, numbered examples.
As the carpet is made by hand, there are slight variations in the dimensions of the single items. The lengthy manufacturing process starts with the shearing of the traditionally reared sheep. The wool is then spun and dyed, and the carefully selected wool fibres are washed. The knots used by the craftsmen is the Tibetan “Senneh”, different from the Persian and the Turkish one.
The rug is realized in Yum quality. The carpets made in this way are brightly coloured, and each pattern is unique. The carpets may be made in different sizes on request, but will always be produced in the proportions shown in the catalogue.
The product is purchased with authenticity certificate and guarantee stamp.

Nathalie Du Pasquier is a French artist and designer who has lived in Milan since 1979. In 1981, Du Pasquier was one of the co-founders of the Memphis Group. Her numerous designs for decorated surfaces such as fabrics, carpets, furniture, and plastic laminates have played a key role in the creation of the unmistakable Memphis style. Despite her success as a designer, painting has been his main activity since 1987. Du Pasquier’s ongoing research is articulated in paintings, sculptures, drawings, models, constructions, carpets, books, and ceramics, which constantly investigate the boundary between the representative and the unrepresentative, the tangible and the intangible, reality and imagination, and two/three-dimensional forms. Her paintings have been exhibited in galleries and institutions around the world, such as PACE Gallery and the Camden Arts Centre in London, Kunsthalle Lissabon, Kunsthalle Wien. Nathalie Du Pasquier continues to design fabrics and collaborates with important brands.
Post Design is a brand owned by Memphis Srl company. Memphis Milano brand was founded in 1981 by Ettore Sottsass and a group of designers and once ended in 1988, Memphis company decided not to use the same brand for future and new products. While Memphis Milano aimed at the expression of one single language, Post Design brand shows the personality of the single designers, even if many of them were belonging to Memphis Milano, but in a new and multilanguage key. What Sottsass and the other designers wanted to meet under the Post Design brand is a number of collections with its own style and life. It is an ambitious project of open investigation into the future, aimed at opening up new paths and recording changes in progress.

Memphis SRL
Trends are cyclical, and even the ones that distinguish an era find a way of returning back in vogue. Memphis Groups design's are a perfect example of how a movement that had top praise during the 80s, could once again regain its admiration in present day 2020. Memphis Milano is the powerful cultural phenomenon of the 1980s that revolutionized creative and commercial logics in design. Born from the idea of Ettore Sottsass and a group of young designers and architects, in Milan, coupled in the years by famous designers from the international scene, Memphis turned upside down all of the existing parameters on living. Ettore Sottsass as the backbone of the group, design gained a new concept and expression through new shapes, materials and patterns, expanding the creative limits of the industry. Memphis became a symbol of New Design. Its influence is still clear in various sectors of production and beyond.

Post-Modern Memphis Design Silk Carpet by Alessandro Mendini x Joseph Carini
By Alessandro Mendini, Carini Carpets
Located in New York, NY
Toto is a product of Alessandro Mendini and Joseph Carini's four piece limited edition collection: the Earthquake Collection. In the style of the Memphis Movement, which blends Art Deco with Pop Art, this incredible Alessandro Mendini design features bold geometric forms and daring color juxtapositions. Here, Mendini and Carini played with warm tones of pink, gold, and maroon against accents of cooler pinks and blues.
Handwoven in our exclusive workshop in Nepal, this high knot count (150 knot) rug exudes luxury and elegance. Shown in 3' (W) x 6' (L) size, this fine handmade carpet is silky soft to the touch and has a beautiful sheen. It makes a fabulous throw rug at the foot of a bed, or in a luxury bathroom, it is the perfect versatile accessory bringing a pop of color and pattern into any room.
This Alessandro Mendini x Joseph Carini limited edition carpet stems from the Memphis Design Movement, led by Ettore Sottsass and other Italian designers and architects of the 1980s. Mendini was a prominent personality of the Radical design movement and Postmodernism Movement.
Carini’s design philosophy is heavily influenced by historical contexts and nature, merging his graphic and organic design interests with his considerable knowledge of decorative arts, architecture, and industrial design history. His expertise in exotic natural dyes and hand-processed materials has become a cornerstone of his work.
Joseph Carini is known for his innovative approach, constantly experimenting with design concepts and natural materials. He works closely with designers and clients, offering his expertise to help realize their visions while ensuring practical and aesthetic success. His emphasis on quality and longevity means that each carpet is crafted to last a lifetime, using the most environmentally friendly dyes and processes.
Since founding Carini in 1997, Joseph Carini has worked with diverse clients, from A-list celebrities to high-end projects. His creations appeal to design aficionados and art collectors who value unique, authentic pieces. Carini’s rugs...
