4x7 Ft Antique Caucasian Kazak Rug with Yellow Field, Ca 1880

About the Item

A gorgeous antique Kazak rug from the late 19th century with a sought-after goldenrod yellow field, featuring a pattern of all-over latticed pinwheels, surrounded by a large inner border filled with ram’s horns with inner and outer guard strips around it featuring a fence of security motif. Woven in the villages on the highest reaches of the Caucasian mountains for centuries, Kazak rugs are stunning pieces of craftsmanship with highly symbolic geometric designs, such as the wheel of life patterns here symbolizing the ever-changing yet cyclical nature of life and as well as the ram’s horns patterns demonstrating warmth and comfort and strength and fertility provided by the sheep and ram that were the livelihood of the Caucasian weaver tribes. The deeply saturated colors of this fascinating rug is derived from high-quality vegetable dyes and they include the typical Kazak palette of potent hues such as scarlet, goldenrod yellow, lapis blue, teal, cream and brown. The strong tribal design, the lustrous wool and the beautiful bright colors of this rug are sure to add an aspect of inimitable character to your interiors. Measures: 4 x 7 ft.
