About the Item

A very special and unique double Mehrab Karachov kazak created by artisan weavers of Karachove in south-western Caucus. The madder red field is decorated by ivory square medallion depicting the "Mother-Goddess" and four stars each with eight points. The most interesting illustration within the field design is the appearance of two Mehrab of ivory outlines and decorations with stars of various colors. There are two woven dates of 1901 on each sides of one the Mehrabs. The whole rug is than surrounded by a pale yellow border designed with human symbols, perhaps weavers both male and female. The two beautiful blue guard borders depict the "running water" design. The rug has wear consistent with its age and use,few restorations with backing reinforcement have been completed on this Kazak, all sides and ends are original and all dyes used to make the rug are absolutely organic.
