Antique Khamseh saddle bag with 'bird' design.
Circa 1880.
This outstanding small bag is finely woven with soft wool and superb dyes. The design is one of the most sought after found on tribal saddlebags; the four central birds / chickens a re surrounding the central medallion containing a rosette / everlasting knot. The ground is a dark indigo blue filled with floral rosettes, boteh, small animals and other tribal devices. There is a wonderful range of natural colours including a soft green.
The saddle bag is in excellent condition with very slight even wear and good pile, the bag retains the decorative closing lappets at the top and a very decorative plain weave back.
The bag has been hand washed and is ready for display.
