Caucasian Rug with Signature, ca. 1940

About the Item

This antique Karabagh rug measuring 270 × 125 cm (8' 10" × 4' 1") was knotted in the Caucasian region located between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the mid-twentieth century. The decoration features geometric designs of repeated medallions. Diagonal stripes formed by hooked half lozanges that point decisively outwards from the central rosettes, give the rug the energy of a statement. Rosettes and quadripartite rhombuses complete the decoration of the field. The edge of the carpet is like a frame that cuts out a repeated series of designs almost casually from a wider field, a beautifully decorated frame with a "goblets and oak leaf" pattern. The deep dark brown of the field and alternation of decoration motifs in strong colors and soft colors fused by time passing constitue a warm addition to your home.
